Were they having a boat race? It certainly looked like it, though I don't think the Staten Island Ferry stood a change against that smaller boat. I think it was some type of sightseeing boat, but it looked fast. Looks like a nice way to get around on a hot day.

Which way was the ferry going? Never mind, you're right Lori, it didn't have a chance even if it was going in the right direction.
Looks like a jet boat. They seem quite common in touristy areas. They're fast and they turn on a dime. It makes for quite a thrill ride from what I've seen.
Cool contrast in colors and boats! :-)
The tour jet boat is for the tourist who has the need for speed. :-D
Yes that is what it is. They started doing that here recently. They take you out to do some sight seeing and if the weather is right, they take you up to about 70 mph in their boat. No thanks. I like to go slow in a boat.
Nice contrasts in this photograph: slow ferry vs. speedy boat, large watercraft vs. small and even the contrast in passengers, relaxed vs. excited. I think that is one of the newest and largest ferryboats, too.
Also, the SI ferry is one of the best ways to introduce someone to the city for the first time in their life. They will never forget that dramatic sight as the suspense and excitement slowly builds.
Ha, its a sight than many of is old hands never get tired of as well!
I'm betting for the green blue one... :-)
Bonjour Lori,
Great capture! The blue-green boat with its shark teeth has a cool funny look.
I would definitevely have prefered to be in that one :-)
I rather be on the ferry! That other boat DOES look like it's going to fast.....how would I take picture! haha
I think it would be a bit scary if the ferry started going at high speed! It'd probably fall apart!
Dang! I had all my money on the Staten Island Ferry!
The ferry is free. The tourist boat isn't.
That's the main difference. :-)
