Happy Halloween

A picture of a freshly-carved pumpkin today to celebrate Halloween. When I was a kid I used to love dressing up and going trick-or-treating and getting lots of candy. It was such fun. So it's always nice to see the children today enjoying the holiday. Have a happy Halloween!

Spook-a-Rama

Continuing with the spooky theme of this Halloween week, here is a picture that I took outside the "spook-a-rama" at Coney Island during my visit a few months ago. I didn't go inside, unfortunately. It looked like it might be too scary!

Decorated Brownstone

I took a photo of the stoop of this brownstone that I passed over the weekend. It looks like they are getting into the Halloween spirit. I enjoy seeing the festive fall decorations. I don't have a stoop to decorate but maybe I will carve a pumpkin this year!

Pier D

The photo for today is something that I pass quite often in Riverside Park. It is the remains of the former “Pier D,” which at one time was used to offload cargo onto railroad cars from the New York Central Railroad. It was destroyed by a fire in 1971, but as a reminder of the rail yard’s history, a portion of the structure has been kept here. (I think the twisted steel looks almost artistic.) It’s amazing to think how recently this park was a working rail yard. How quickly things change!

Leaves

I've been inspired by all the photos of beautiful fall leaves I've seen on many of the blogs. We still don't have many colorful leaves here, but I did see this tree. I love the fall colors and wish the season was longer!

125th Street

This is a photo I took from the Metro North train last weekend of 125th Street, the main thoroughfare in Harlem. There are lots of interesting things on 125th Street, like the Apollo Theater and the Studio Museum in Harlem. I've never been to that Museum, but when I do, I'll show you a photo!

Central Park Reservoir

Here's a picture that I took a few weeks ago of the reservoir in Central Park and the fountain which was turned back on this summer. Here is some information about it from http://www.easynewyorkcity.com/,

“The Reservoir, named the "Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir" in 1994, is a favorite Central Park attraction for joggers, bird watchers, and tourists who enjoy some of the best views of the New York City skyline. The 106-acre water body, holds over a billion gallons of water and was completed in 1862 while the Park was under construction. The reservoir no longer distributes fresh water to Manhattan residents but it provides fresh water to the Pool, the Loch, and the Harlem Meer.”

Blogger's Meeting

On Friday night I had the great pleasure of meeting three fellow bloggers; Olivier from Evry, France, Eliane from New York and Ming from New York. This is the first time I've ever met fellow bloggers and we had a terrific gathering! This is Olivier with the famous Amedée, who sometimes appears in his photos, and who actually belongs to his niece. (Eliane and Ming prefer to go incognito, that's why they aren't in the picture too!)

Umbrellas

Here's another shot from the flea market I mentioned yesterday. Flea markets are fun to visit, but it was hard to get a good photo! I hope you all have a very nice weekend. See you Monday!

Beads

Just a picture today of some beads I saw at my favorite flea market at 77th Street and Columbus Avenue. I love to peruse the flea markets and I always enjoy browsing at this one.

At the Fountain

Today a photo of people gathering at the fountain at Lincoln Center. It is a popular gathering spot for people who have come to Lincoln Center to attend the ballet, opera or the philharmonic. I was trying to capture the silhouttes of the people, but I wasn't very successful at that. I think the fountain is pretty at night though.

State Theater

This is a photo I took of one of the Eli Nadelman sculptures in the lobby of the New York State Theater. The State Theater is home to the New York City Ballet and the New York City Opera. The first time I ever visited New York I saw a performance there and I've always thought it was a very glamorous looking place.

San Remo

As you can see, they are still boating on the lake in Central Park. We had a beautiful weekend here, and thankfully the weather is starting to feel more like fall. That is the San Remo apartment building in the background of this photo. I bet those people have a great view of the Park!

Puppet Show

This was an impromptu puppet show in front of the Met this past weekend. I'm not sure what the show was, though at one point I think they were acting out a scene from Titanic. I always enjoy watching the street performers. Have a nice weekend!

Still Green

This is a photo I took last weekend looking over Central Park. As you can see, there aren't many leaves that are changing colors yet. I guess the long-lasting summer weather has something to do with it. Luckily, the weather has been feeling more fall-like the last few days. Hopefully we'll have some pretty leaves soon!

Met Roof

I visited the roof of the Metropolitan Museum this weekend and this is one of the photos I took. The sculpture you see reflected on the right is part of the Frank Stella exhibit there. The roof features some beautiful views of Manhattan!

Jeannette 1-5

Today I'm showing a shot from the Museum of Modern Art of five "Jeannettes" by Henri Matisse. I don't really know who Jeannette was, but I think she was one of his favorite models. Whoever she was, she certainly had an interesting face.

Katz's Deli

Here's a picture today of the sign outside Katz's deli. It's a classic New York style deli on the Lower East Side. I took this photo a while back when I was practicing some night shots. I wish I had an inside picture to show you. I love the food there!

Las Vegas (4 of 4)

And for the final installment of the Las Vegas trip, New York, NY, including the Statue of Liberty, Grand Central Station and the Empire State Building. We had a terrific time there! Enjoy the weekend and see you Monday!

Las Vegas (3 of 4)

Today I'm showing a picture from the Venetian Hotel. (This one probably doesn't look as similar to the real thing as the Eiffel Tower yesterday.) I loved this hotel though. It even had a canal and singing gondoliers - very over-the-top, but I love that kind of stuff!

Las Vegas (2 of 4)

Now we are in Paris! No, still Las Vegas at the Paris Casino which has an Eiffel Tower, an Arc de Triomphe and an Opera House. The Eiffel Tower has a great view from the top and it was surprisingly realistic. We had a lot of fun there!!

Las Vegas (1 of 4)

Since I'm completely out of New York photos, I thought I would show you a few pictures from my trip to Las Vegas last weekend. This is a photo of the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel. They were quite spectacular in person! I was very impressed. (I promise to try and catch up on some New York pictures this week.)

Cobblestones

I always like to find streets with the old cobblestones. This one was near New York University. Have a nice week!
