Chanel Mobile Art Pavillion

I was walking in the park at lunch today and happened upon the Chanel Mobile Art Pavilion. This is a traveling exhibition that's already been to Hong Kong and Tokyo and now it's in New York . The structure was designed by the architect Zaha Hadid. Inside is an exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Chanel quilted handbag. Apparently there are 18 "handbag-inspired" installations by various artists inside. I think tickets are free but are hard to get. They had a very long standby line today so I only saw the outside! (I think after New York it’s going on to London , Moscow and Paris .)

I like the design of the outside, is it made of plastic or fibre glass?

surprenant et très moderne, vu comme cela on dirait un immense toboggan.

modern and very surprising, given that it looks like a huge slide.

Appears alien in the park setting. Have to find out more about the structure and see it if I am able to get in this weekend.
And speaking of weekends, have a wonderful one!

Ps. Your work permits you one of the most enviable locations for lunch - a walk in THE park!

Dave, I just checked and it says the outside is made of fiberglass panels. I guess that makes it easy to reassemble.

Interesting structure! Considering it is Chanel, I figured it would have to be artsy outside as well as inside. Sure does look like a spacecraft.

Meanwhile Blogtrotter just said goodbye to Mykonos 2007!! It shows the famous sunset scene at Little Venice, and the Pelican mascot of the island… ;)
Hope you enjoy, comment and have a great weekend!

Oh, how cool! Is that in Central Park? I'll have to try to figure out a way to get inside there and see the show.

Your previous posts are in my neck of the woods - though I was up in Central Park today.
I love Chelsea Market almost as much as the green market in Union Square.

I went last Sunday and waited about 1-1/2 hour to get in. The attendants said if you arrive at 8:30 AM when the exhibition opens, the wait will be a lot shorter.
