Do they really sample the water? Isn't it funny how you can walk down a street hundreds of times and never notice little things like this water sampling station. I wonder how often they sample the water. Anyway, I'm going to check it out the next time I go down this street, maybe they'll be there doing the sampling!

Good eye Lori.
I have never seen anything like this before. I just assumed that local authorities did random samples of our drinking water....well I hope they do.
Thought water was sampled at the source ... good shot & detail of the box.
That's sort of weird.....haha
Maybe you didn't notice it because it's new?!
I know what you mean. Since I have started to slow down, I have noticed all kinds of things that I previously missed.
Sampling done both at source and along distribution systems, Samples drawn from sterilized tap, under laboratory conditions and sent for analysis. Small municipal systems do the same, all under rigorous schedules and results reported to state, Federal regulators as well, although have never see a "station" like this. Every municipal water customer is provide with an annual detailed report of thoses tests, and the results may mandate additional treatment or filtration.
I like the "directness" of this photo.
I've never heard of this before. Surely to sample the water you just turn the tap in a building!
You see like a detective.... good work!
I've never seen anything like that here in CA.
You never know what you're going to see in NYC. I once saw a little flower grow in the cracks of the concrete in the Broadway neighborhood. I know I was shocked at the time, yet there it was, small, colorful and erect, right there on the concrete of a busy sidewalk.
