Croquet Players

I've passed the croquet fields in Central Park many times but I've never seen anyone playing there before. This weekend I went by and there were players there! So, I took some pictures. I don't know if wearing white is required. I haven't played croquet since I was a kid, but this looked like fun!

if you were surprised to see American football on my blog today, I am even more surprised to see croquet with “Park Exchange”. Child I often played croquet. I find that the players have much class. Cheer for your photographs

Hi Lori,

Thanks for all your visits to my blog. I so appreciate that.

I love to play croquet. We used to have special fields for that purpose here, there, and everywhere, but they are slowly being turned into parking lots. In my day, people had family reunions in woods. I remember one called the "Virginia Reunion" and it was big. Lots of people gathered in my village at this big woods and they had special croquet places. With curbs to keep the ball in bounds. They also had dual winged airplanes that puttered up and around for a fee. Your white clothes were worn then too so it must be required.

I do not know this game, but I find it very elegant, very "British",
(even if is born from an Italian game of 1300 called "pallamaglio")
P.S.I wait you for a italian coffee...

I haven't played Croquet in years since I too was a little kid, i also do not remember ever having to wear all white though.

This picture makes me think of England, even though I never been there myself in person.

Reminds me of cricket thats widely popular in India, my native country. It's almost a religion in Indian subcontinent, a British colonial legacy.

Croquet as you saw it, is very much NOT like we played as a kid. It has very specific rules and you need a special mallet(longer than the kids set we played with)..I only know this much as I have 2 brothersinlaw who are mad for this game and travel the USA doing it. go figure. Your pictures are lovely, though....all of the ones I have seen.
