Brooklyn Flea

New York has a new open air market that started in April. Called Brooklyn Flea, it's the City's largest outdoor market and has lots of cool stuff. They've got vendors selling furniture, clothing and antiques and new designs by local artisans who make everything from jewelry to textiles. It was hard to get a good photo of it (it's better to see it in person!) but this gives you a sample. It's a fun place to browse, especially when the weather is nice.

I guess all girls like shoes!

That is so cute, the little girl with the shoes. I remember my daughter had a fascination for shoes, too, when she was little.
The old house in the background looks great, too!

Looks like a place where up & coming designers can market their works, and find some stuff at a good price.

How cute that little girl is. I wonder if she tried anything on?

The Bronx painter I asked about has commissioned work at the Metropolitan Transit Authority's
Freeman Street 2 & 5 elevated train station in the Bronx. It "has been permanently graced with faceted glass panels depicting Bronx street scenes by Daniel Hauben." I don't really know him, have never met him, but he is married to an old friend from school so it makes me curious.

Hello Lori,
Did you find something for you? You made a great pic with the little girl among the shoes :-) This is really adorable.
$50 a pair!! Not a bargain though...
Enjoy your week-end

I have yet to check that market out. I've heard that it is more of a conglommeration of artists and stores than a real fea market. Is that true?

I'm so glad your back. I would love your comments on my posts. We love flea markets and always hit the NY ones when we're there. About shoes--we once one a "Newlywed Game" at a neighborhood party with the question "How many pair of shoes does your wife have". He said "3" and everyone laughed. When I said "3, a pair of sandal, tennis shoes, and dress shoes- nobody needs more than three"-- the men couldn't believe it and half of the women never spoke to me again.
I just discovered this morning I left my "best" shoes at the other house and went to church in sandals in the snow. Oh well.
Have a great week and it's so good to know you'll be there when I log on.

Hi everyone!

Yes, Eliane I think that's true. It was a conglomeration of various artists rather than your typical flea market. It did have lots of what you'd expect from a flea market though. I enjoyed it!
