Arms and Armor

They have the most amazing collection of arms and armor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I haven't been there often, but stumbled upon the room during a recent visit. Can you imagine wearing one of these? Here is a brief description of the collection from their website:

The collection of armor, edged weapons, and firearms in The Metropolitan Museum of Art ranks with those of the other great armories of the world, in Vienna, Madrid, Dresden, and Paris. It consists of approximately 15,000 objects that range in date from about 400 B.C. to the nineteenth century. Though Western Europe and Japan are the regions most strongly represented.

Impressive but surely not comfortable for the rider ;)A museum worthwhile to visit !

Cool shot! I don't think mobility was an advantage with that armor, as much as protection for wither the rider or the horse.

You are right, Lori, it is hard to imagine wearing that armor, let alone putting it on and removing it. Plus, I imagine, gaining a few winter pounds might cause difficulties! Have not seen that collection for over a decade, worth another look! Thanks for the remider.

What really impresses me is that the museum has a group of four armored horses and riders on display. And I don't know if you noticed, but in one corner of that gallery, there's a rather chunky looking suit of armor. Turns out it was the last suit of armor worn by the rather chunky Henry VIII!
