Greenhouse plants

Since I'm digging into the photo archive, I thought I'd show a photo today from one of the greenhouses at the beautiful garden Wave Hill in the Bronx. I believe these plants are succulents. (I'd love to go back to school to become an expert in plants!) Though I don't have much luck with my window plants at home, I love to see them in the gardens. The ones in this greenhouse were gorgeous!

Si il existe un paradis dans NYC, c'est bien Wave Hill. Cela doit être superbe en plein hiver. beaux choix de plantes hivernales (dommage, cette année, je n'aurais pas le temps d'y faire un tour)

Its nice to see some colour at this time of year. I will have to see if I can find any. We still have some pelegoniums flowering in a shady place I will try and get some pictures.

These are lovely, really nice in terracotta pots. Btw, they are Sempervivums (also known as House Leeks) and there are over 1000 different varieties! And your right, they are succulents!

I have the good fortune to work at Wave Hill; it is incredible in winter any everyone should visit. Most of the plants in the photo are Echevarias, which are at their subtle best in winter. Glad you all like them!

Thought you'd like to know about the first of our 2009 Horticultural Lectures, on January 21. Photographer Mick Hales will be speaking about what catches the eye in a garden and how that affects what we see and experience. The lectures are at the New York School of Interior Design (170 E. 70th St.) and general admission is $25. More at http://www.wavehill.org/events/event_1427.html.
All the best!
