Flower District

I had to buy flowers for a party over the weekend so I went down to New York's flower district to get some fresh ones. The flower district is essentially just two blocks on west 28th Street now, and is lined with shops selling plants and cut flowers (and some silk flowers too), both wholesale and retail. The busiest time in the flower district is the early morning when people in the business are making their purchases. But later in the day it makes for a colorful stroll amongst all of the beautiful greenery. It smells good there too!

It looks like a photographer's delight too!

I hope some of them allowed you to get some shots of their flowers as well.

I like the contrast between the cool greens and the hot looking, over-exposed buildings. A real oasis in the city!

Beautiful shot! It brings back lots of great memories of working in NYC. I think NYers tend to take this kind of view for granted after a while. Thanks for the reminder!

That sounds like a wonderful spot.

I wish we had a flower district.

It would be fun if one's daily commute included walking through those two blocks each day!

One of my favorite shopping place! And this one whihc is extending along the street is quite nice and seems to have a a big selection!

Also, I was so taken aback to read your comment on my blog about a coyote hunting in central Park, especially since I was joking around!!! Well! they can travel big distances especially when there is a lot of food available!
I guess we have to get use to it!

We are growing lots of flowers just so we can have cut flowers. It is a nice touch to have fresh ones every day.

I don't think I have ever seen so many flowers anywhere except possibly when I go see somebody who has died in the funeral home. Really a nice post.

The green of the foliage and the colorful blossoms are a beautiful contrast to the buildings.
