Balloon Ride

I spotted this balloon over Central Park over the weekend. I have no idea why it was up there (an advertisement for something I suppose) or who they were taking for rides. I wouldn't mind going for a ride in a hot air balloon someday. Happy Monday!

Update: Both Wayne and Olivier tell me that the balloon is there to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Central Park. I think it will be taking people on rides for the next month. Thanks to them for finding this fact!

Your pic got my curiosity going. I blew the picture up as much as I could and still couldn't properly read the banner.
It turns out the event is well covered on the net. It's the 150th anniversary of Central Park. There was a design competition back in 1850 something, which was won by Frederic Law Olmstead and his partner, Calvert Vaux, who never seems to get any credit. Their design was called Greensward and that is what the larger type on the banner says.
$25.00 seems a bit steep for a ride but I'm sure there are lots of takers.

In response to your question: walks inflated balloons with helium offering a spectacular view of Central Park are offered to the public until August 22 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the conception of one of the most famous parks in the world . It must be wonderful to be done, I rêverais. See link NY1 .

A balloon ride in Central Park would be quite neat from a photographer's perspective, and even would be a great tourist attraction as well.

Wow, thanks Wayne and Olivier for the information. I had no idea! I should have gone into the park to see what was happening. Thanks for solving the mystery!

Well spotted! I bet the view down on the park was great. Monday here is hot, hot, hot. No air at all. I can't believe I'm going to say this but we could do with some rain!

Have missed your photos and have been thinking of them, finally some time to come back and happy to see that you have continued with that keen eye of yours. Missed too much to digest all at once, made it back to "Wave Hill" incidently, a spot I have not been and after seeing your post, will add it to the "to-do soon's."

You should go for a ride while they're doing it!!!

I had no idea either. I wouldn't mind a little trip in a balloon either. Although. i think I would prefer this in a "softer" landscape, in the country... in case we need to land somewhere, I'd rather have some grass or moss for surface. ;)

Saw a new story on it. Yeap, it's the new attraction at Central Park -- hot air balloon rides.
