I once read the amount of money they retrieve each year from the fountains in the Metropolitan Museum and of course I now I've completely forgotten. I wish I could remember because that would make this post more interesting! Anyway, I think there is someone who works there who's specialty is to take the money out of the fountains each week. I hope all your wishes come true today! :)

The amount mentioned in this article sounds low. Maybe the 'take' has increased since this fountain was installed.

Sorry, I thought I'd be able to cut and paste the link so you could just click on it. I see that didn't work. I know everyone reading this will be more computer savvy than me, you'll know what to do.
I think it's also on the Met website, probably under Explore&Learn, in the Kid's section.
The fountain is cleaned up on a regular basis and it's quite a job. But people can't help throwing coins when they see some water.
Same thing in the "Nile" where the Temple of Dendur is.
But my favorite has to be in the Asia galleries, the little Ganesh where people are always leaving a few coins for good luck.
I love your photos! Having lived in Italy for six years, I see so much of "Italy" in NY...the flower stands especially. Oh, how I miss the flowers on every street corner.
I wonder what it is that makes people throw coins in water for luck.
et est ce que tu as fait un vœu ? et c'est il réalisé ? Je ne connaissais pas cette fontaine.
and is what you have done a vow? and is prepared? I did not know this fountain.
Lots of shiny coins in that fountain ...
Another beautifully composed shot! Love that copper and the different textures.
I give my grandson pennies to throw into fountains like these sometimes.
I am thinking about putting in a wishing fountain in my front yard. It looks profitable. :)
That's the most I've ever seen in a fountain.
Last Sunday in church, the praise band played "Pennies from Heaven" for the Offertory!!
I thought that was pretty cute!!
As well as being a lovely fountain it makes money. What more could they want?!
