Another photo from my trip to the Cathedral of St. John the Divine a few weeks ago. Unfortunately my inside pictures weren't that successful. The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is the largest cathedral in the world (but not the largest church.) It is impressive inside, although there was a fire there in 2001 and it looks like they are still rebuilding from that.

Tremendous sense of height here Lori. Whilst I'm not religious I like visiting churches and cathederals. I wander back to the time when they were built and they must have been the equivalent of sky scrapers to the people of Medieval Britain. Have you read "Pillars of Earth" by Ken Follet. Its a story about cathederal building in the Middle Ages and gives a good insight into what happened in that time.
the light from above accentuates the divine feeling ...i am not a believer either but like davem said I too love visiting places of worship for their architectural wonder..and my camera loves them more..:)

P.S.This cathedral is the largest cathedral and second largest christian church in the world, (being surpassed only by Saint Peter's Basilica).

Meredic, well I can't really describe how I took the picture because I just pushed the button and snapped a picture. I'm not really an expert in how to use my camera! I keep meaning to take a class, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. One of these days I will read the book that came with it. (Most of the inside pictures were very fuzzy.)
Love the atmosphere here. I've never been in a place like this.

I visited the National Cathedral in Washington DC last month and the tour guide mentioned St. John the Divine.
I visited St. John the Diving two years ago when I took my friend from Louisiana there for a visit. It is a spectacular building.
