Merry Christmas

Radio City

I heard they have a new tree in front of Radio City Music Hall this year. It is quite pretty. I'm hoping to get more Christmas related photos soon. I'll be away next week but I'll be back soon!

Fall Afternoon

This was the scene along Fifth Avenue a few weeks ago. I love the patterns of the sidewalks here. Not much more to say about this one.

Lights

I love to see New York at night. I so enjoy the bright lights!

Gaga's workshop

This is an entrance to Lady Gaga's workshop at Barney's on Madison Avenue. I didn't venture inside but apparently it's been very popular especially with her fans. Have a good week ahead!

Windows

The windows at Bergdorf Goodman the fancy department store on Fifth Avenue are decorated for Christmas. With leaves still on the trees below and the warmer temperatures lately, the holidays still seem far off. Christmas will be here soon though!

Dramatic sky

This is a shot from thanksgiving travels. The sky was so dramatic just before sundown. I'll try to get out and take some more New York photos soon!

Motion

The holiday bustle is beginning in the city. The streets always seem much busier with more visitors and shoppers this time of year. Hopefully I'll get some shots of holiday lights to show you soon.

Botero Statues

These are some Botero statues (at least I'm assuming that is the artist) that I saw in front of an office building in midtown recently. The quality of the photo is not so good but I loved the statues. Have a good week.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! This chocolate turkey is from the window of La Maison du Chocolat in midtown and I'm sure it is delicious. Hope you enjoy your feast.

Falling Leaves

The trees are getting to be mostly bare in Central Park these days. And after all of the rain today and tomorrow there will definitely be many more falling leaves.

Reenactment

Last weekend they had a reenactment of the Battle of Ft. Washington, in Ft. Tryon park in Washington Heights. I don't know much about it but apparently it did not end well for the Americans. The reenactment brought out lots of people from the community to learn about the history of the area.

Macarons

In Chelsea there's a shop called La Maison du Macaron with some delicious looking French style Macarons. I didn't taste any but I loved the colorful display in the window. It looks like they've got all kinds of flavors. I must go back. Have a great week!

Street vendors

These street vendors didn't have much business as evening was setting in the other night. At lunchtime they usually have lots of customers. Now that the holiday lights are up, these midtown streets will soon be crowded with holiday visitors. Have a nice weekend!

East River View

The waterfront in Williamsburg Brooklyn gives a gorgeous view of the East River and the East Side of Manhattan. There's a nice park there too where you can take a walk after taking in all of the calories at Smorgasburg.

S'mores

My sweet tooth must be kicking in this week. This is another photo from "Smorgasburg" the food market in Williamsurg, Brooklyn. This guy was making s'mores and there was quite a line of people waiting for them. I didn't try one then, but one sounds good right now!

Doughnuts

These tasty looking doughnuts were for sale at "Smorgasburg" the food flea market in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They have an incredible and delicious array of foods for sale there and there is an awesome view of Manhattan from the market. I had a fun time!

An engagement

This was an engagement I spotted during last week's marathon. The runner on the left had just asked his girlfriend who had been waiting along the route, to marry him. It was a sweet scene!

Lebow Statue

It's marathon weekend! They always move the statue of marathon founder Fred Lebow from it's usual spot at 90th Street and the East Drive in Central Park to the finish line of the marathon. There was an article about it in this week's Times. Enoy your weekend!

Palisades

This is a photo of the Palisades across the Hudson River from New York City. It really looks like a transition from fall to winter in this photo. This was after the snowstorm last weekend, but now the snow has melted and it looks like fall again.

Columbus Circle

This is another example of the new exhibition of sculptures by the artist Peter Woytuk which are appearing all along Broadway now. This is one of two elephants at Colubus Circle. That's an apple he's carrying with his trunk. It's very lifelike in person!

Flowers

The pretty fall flowers were briefly covered up this weekend with a coating of snow. The storm was certainly unusual for this time of year. But hopefully it will melt quickly and we'll continue on with some more fall-like weather. Happy Halloween!

Window

This is another shot I took on my trip to Cold Spring. I loved the colorful leaves surrounding the window. It might snow around here this weekend! Hopefully winter won't come that early. Have a great weekend.

Conan

And while I'm on the subject of public art....this was a statue I saw recently at the "New York Museum of Conan Art" a temporary exhibit in the Time Warner Center. It's all paintings and other works of art with the subject being the talk show host Conan O'Brien. This particular one is made of pencils (no idea who created it). I guess it will all be on TV soon as part of his show.

Crow and Apples

I seem to be taking a lot of photos of public art lately. This one is part of an exhibit sponsored by the Broadway Mall Association with sculptures all along Broadway by the artist Peter Woytuk. This particular one is at 79th and Broadway on the Upper West Side.

Cold Spring

This is a photo from another weekend trip I took recently. This is in Cold Spring, NY, just over an hour north of the city. They have gorgeous views of the Hudson River and the beautiful mountains on the other side of the river. I'd recommend a visit.

Start to fall

The fall colors are just now starting to appear in Central Park. In a few weeks the green will be all gone. These people on the bridge were enoying a beautiful fall day before the colder weather begins. Enjoy your weekend!

Tornado

This is a section of the sculpture "Tornado" by the artist Michael Sailstorfer and is on display near the Plaza Hotel as part of the art in the parks program. I believe the sculpture is made of the inner part of tires. You can read more about the work here.

Red Bulls

These were the opening festivities at a professional soccer game I saw a few weeks ago in Harrison, NJ. It was a game between the New York Red Bulls and the Los Angeles Galaxy. It was the first professional soccer match I've seen (actually the first soccer match of any kind I've seen in person.) It was lots of fun!

Maine sunrise

Sorry for the long absence, things got busy! This is a photo I took from my time in Maine. The photo is sunrise over the cove and islands. What beautiful sights there are in Maine.

Light Installation

This is a light installation at Lincoln Center, the performing arts complex on the Upper West Side. I'm afraid I don't know any of the details about it. But it looks really great at night. I'll be away next week so enjoy the weekend and the week ahead!

Balloons

They were getting shoppers attention today with these giant red balloons at the opening of a new Century 21 department store on the Upper West Side. The balloons certainly caught my eye.

Summer Flowers

Since we are getting close to the first day of fall, I figure this is my last chance for a while to show some summer flowers! These flowers are pretty for any season.

Tut's Fever

This is from "Tut's Fever," an installation by the artists Red Grooms and Lysiane Luong at the Museum of the Moving Image. The installation is a working movie theatre done in an Egyptian theme. This was the concession stand. The whole thing was really fun. You can read about it here.

Museum

I visited the Museum of the Moving Image this weekend, a very interesting place in Astoria Queens, dedicated to the history and technology of the moving image. They have a great exhibit now about the work of Jim Henson. It was a lot of fun.

Stars

These are stars I saw in a florist window recently. I think they are Moravian stars? Enjoy your weekend!

Yankee Stadium

A few weeks ago I showed you a photo from the new Citi Field, the home of the New York Mets. And now I've had the chance to take in a game at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Luckily it was a great game, a beautiful day and the Yankees won. It's another great place to see a game. We are lucky to have two teams here in New York!

Dresses

This week is fashion week in New York and although this photo has nothing to do with the shows (they are showing spring and summer fashions right now) it made me remember this photo I took a while back. I loved the silhouettes of these dresses. Some day I'd love to see one of the runway shows!

Ship

I happened across the Norwegian Gem recently as it headed out of New York on its way to Bermuda. The ship looks enormous up close and holds over 2,000 people. The passengers must have been excited to head out on their vacation. I've never been on a cruise but it might be something to try someday.

Gehry Building

This is another new skyscraper going up in lower Manhattan. This tower designed by the architect Frank Gehry is 76 stories tall and will be a luxury residential building. You can read more about here. Have a good week.

Tower

The tower going up in the center of this photo will be the new One World Trade Center when it is completed. This weekend the new memorial garden will be dedicated at the former site of the World Trade Center, in front of the new tower. I'm thinking of all of those lives that were lost there.

Jean Nouvel Tower

I love the look of this tower by the French architect Jean Nouvel located in Chelsea. You can read more about it and see photos from inside here. Wish I could afford to live there! On the left in the photo is the Metropolitan Life Company Tower.

U.S. Open

This was the scene at the U.S. Open tennis tournament over the weekend in Flushing, Queens. The matches were totally rained out yesterday, hopefully they'll have better luck with the weather today.

Jet skier

Jet skiing seems to be a popular past time now on the Hudson River. I see more and more of them in the warmer months. I imagine the water is pretty cold even in the summer so it's a good thing this guy has his wet suit. Even in a suit I don't know if I'd get in that water!

Clam Pizza

Doesn't this pizza look delicious! I had this clam covered pizza at a restaurant in Greenwich Village recently. It was yummy.

Chelsea building

I thought this was an interesting building I saw in Chelsea recently. The windows look right out on the High Line. It's a beautiful spot but maybe not the most private space, with High Line visitors right outside. I thought those were cool terraces on the building next door.

Squirrel

This is the curious squirrel who sometimes follows me when I walk in Ft. Tryon Park. At least it always looks like the same squirrel. I'm always amazed at how many creatures I've seen in the park, groundhogs, racoons, hawks, etc. It's nice to have some wildlife here.

After Irene

We were so lucky in my neighborhood that the only affect from the big storm was some branches and leaves on the ground. I know that some areas had a lot of flooding, so we were very fortunate.

Clouds

These were some passing clouds during a recent sunset. Let's hope the storm clouds pass us by this weekend and the hurricaine heads back out to the ocean!
