Socrates again

This is another shot from the Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens. I liked the juxtaposition of the new apartment building with the sculpture on the right. The building didn't seem to be occupied yet, but the future residents will have some beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline from there. Have a nice weekend!

Lacrosse

Who knew that lacrosse was a sport in New York City schools. These players were on a field in Queens. It's a sport I know nothing about, I must admit, though it looked rather difficult to play.

Cruising

This is one of the cruise ships about to head down the Hudson River and off to somewhere exotic, I suppose. I always wonder where they must be going and what the inside looks like. I haven't been on one yet, but maybe some day!

Food models

This is taken at the food court at Mitsuwa a huge Japanese grocery store and marketplace. These are models of the actual dishes (not sure what they are made of) but they look incredibly realistic! This store is in Edgewater, New Jersey and is where I took the shot of yesterday's Hudson river view.

Flags

This is a display of flags at the Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens. As you can see, the wind was just starting to kick up that day. I'm afraid I don't know who created the display but it might be on their website. Have a great weekend.

More sweets

Continuing on yesterday's theme of "sweets" I saw this sweet sculpture at the Socrates Sculpture park in Long Island City, Queens. This pile of cakes was quite realistic looking in person and if you were hungry you might want to try a piece! (I'm afraid I don't know the name of the artist.) Sweets!

These are some of the sweets at Lefkos Pirgos, a great Greek bakery on 31st street in Astoria, Queens. It's a nice place for some coffee and an afternoon snack, or an anytime snack.

Noguchi part two

One last look at the interesting works of Isamu Noguchi at the Noguchi Museum in Queens. This part of the museum is partially open to the outdoors and though they are covered by a roof, the sculptures are somewhat exposed to the elements. It's a cool place!

Noguchi

We are fortunate to have so many wonderful museums here in New York and the Noguchi Museum in Queens is one of them. Housed in his former workshop in Long Island City, it features many of his sculptures and architectural designs, and has a beautiful garden. You can read more about on their website.

Snowy Scene

Another shot from Central Park looking at Cenrtral Park West....we are having much warmer temperatures today, so this scene will look very different. I wish you a good weekend!

New York Bagels

This is a batch of fresh bagels coming out of the oven at H&H Bagels on the upper west side. They are my favorite! You can read more about them at their website. (Sorry if I've posted this photo before. I need to update my photo library!)

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Since I'm revisiting some older photos, I found this photo from the Japanese Pond and Garden at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. You can read more about the garden at their website. It is lovely there even in the winter.

Trinity Churchyard

I'm digging up some old photos out of the archives as I haven't been on any picture taking excursions lately. This is a photo of the churchyard of Trinity Church in lower Manhattan. The statue that you see in the center is John Watts, a New York Congressman who is interred in the cemetary there.

Apple Store

This fall a new Apple store opened on the upper west side of Manhattan. It's a very interesting looking place and it's fun to browse there. There's a much better photo on their own website! Have a good week.

Blessed Sacrament Church

This is a photo of the outside of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church on West 71st Street in Manhattan. There are many nice churches in Manhattan, and this one has quite beautiful architecture. Snowflake

This is one of the snowflake decorations they hang above Fifth Avenue in midtown at the holidays. The building on the right is Tiffany & Co. the jewelry store.

Random Shot

A random street scene for today. Sorry I couldn't find any more dog photos, so dog week wasn't very long.

Waiting

Maybe I should make this dog week on the blog. This little guy was waiting for his master outside the ice cream shop. Strange that his owner was buying ice cream when it's 20 degrees outside!

Deep Freeze

The snow is all gone now but it sure is freezing here now. These pretty dogs didn't seem to mind the cold after the last storm. This seems like a long winter already!
