St. Patrick's #2

This is another shot from my earlier visit to St. Patrick's Cathedral in midtown last weekend. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas Eve and a very happy holiday!

Rockefeller Center Tree

I know, I usually show a photo of this every year! But the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree seems like the quintessential New York Christmas view to me. It's a lovely tree this year (like always!)

Bendel's

These are some of the Christmas displays at Henri Bendel's, the accessories store on Fifth Avenue. There are some beautiful Lalique windows in the store. It's a fun place to browse.

Cartier

The Cartier building is decorated very festively for the holidays. Many of the buildings along Fifth Avenue have beautiful lights this time of year.

St. Patrick's

I stopped inside St. Patrick's Cathedral this weekend. The crowds were crazy (as you can imagine the weekend before Christmas)! But it looked beautiful.

Maine monument

This is a portion of the Maine Monument at 59th Street at the entrance to Central Park. I think he looks cold! Enjoy your weekend and stay warm.

Fancy window

I'm resorting to showing some of last year's Christmas photos! This was a window at the jeweler Tiffany. I like some of those pearls and diamonds they were showing!!

Igloo

I'm completely out of photos right now so I have to show you one more I took in Bryant Park recenly. This "igloo" is a pop up shop in Bryant Park for the holidays. I liked how it glowed at night. Hopefully I can get some more pictures soon.

Dolls

This is a display of dolls from holiday windows of past years that have appeared at Lord & Taylor. I love to see the decorated windows this time of year. I'll have to go on a photographic excursion and find some more!

Skating

The skating season is under way in Bryant Park. I can't wait to try it again, one of these warmer days!! Have a great week.

Fire pit

Don't these people look cold, even next to a fire! This was at the Southwestern porch in Bryant Park. It might be nice to sit there a while, but maybe in warmer temperatures.

Filipino Food

I never knew that there was a Filipino section in Queens before. This was some delicious Filipino Food at Krystal's Bakery restaurant in Woodside, Queens. In the front is oxtail stew and there is also pork adobo and some lumpia (like a spring roll.) It was all very tasty!

Trees

It's Christmas tree time again! I love the scent of these trees. It smells like Christmas!!

Santas

Since we are now officially in the Christmas season, here's a shot of some Santas I took at Macy's, a bonanza of Santas. Enjoy your weekend!

Fire escapes

These are some fire escapes seen in an alley in Chinatown. In person they seemed to make an interesting pattern.

Late Fall

A typical late fall day in Central Park....I took this picture the day of the marathon in early November. (I miss spending as much time in the park as I used to!) Hopefully I'll have some more wintry photos soon, now that its December.

Christmas Fairy

I think this was a Christmas Fairy or maybe a very tall ballerina at last night's holiday celebration in Lincoln Square. The holiday season is here!

Concert

I was walking in a park in Chinatown recently and there were a lot of these groups performing. There were three or four of them. It must be a popular past time. They sounded really good.

Happy Thanksgiving! Have some wonderful pumpkin pies today! (These were pumpkins from the Greenmarket, waiting to be made into pies.)

Shoppers

Here are some shoppers at the Saturday greenmarket on Isham Street in Inwood. They always have such a nice market there with lots of great produce. Maybe these people were shopping for the thanksgiving meal!

Bell

I'm not sure what this Liberty Bell replica was doing outside the St. Mark's Church-in-the Bowery in the East Village. It was a very nice church from the outside. I must go back and see the inside.

Building

I liked the contrast between the older and newer architecture here. I don't know who designed the new building. I think it was in the East Village. Have a good week.

Lanterns

This is a lantern I saw recently in Central Park. The trees are illuminated because they were filming a movie in that area. I think it's to be called Tower Heist. Not sure who's in it.

Pastel

This mural caught my eye the other day. I'm not sure what they were advertising. I guess it's just a typical street scene in NYC.

Metropolitan Life Building

I took a photo of the Metropolitan Life Building the other day when I was in Madison Square Park. There was a time when it was the tallest building in the world. It looks so beautiful at night, though I don't have a night time photo to show you. According to Wikipedia it was modeled after the Campanile in Venice.

Pork

This photo is from the meat department at the new Italian market "Eataly" on 23rd Street in the flatiron district. It's a really cool market with some delicious looking food there (bread, wine, cheese, etc.). It's well worth a stroll through if you are in the area.

Fruit

I've forgotten the name of this fruit I saw recently in Chinatown. The peeled one seemed to glow! I'm sure it must be delicious. Have a good weekend!

Scattered light

This is a (not so good) photo of a new art installation in Madison Square Park by the artist Jim Campbell. It's called Scattered Light and you can read more about it here. It's really quite beautiful, especially at dusk.

Candy dress

This was a delicious looking dress, if you have a sweet tooth. It was on display at Macy's and was completely made of candy. I believe it was there to celebrate the release of a new book by Dylan Lauren from Dylan's Candy Bar. It was quite pretty in person.

Columbus Circle

This is a photo I took last night from Jazz at Lincoln Center's space at the Time Warner Center, looking down on Columbus Circle. They have a great view from there!

Marathon!

I didn't run in the marathon this year, but I did enjoy it as a spectator. It was a gorgeous day for the runners. This is near mile 26 in Central Park. Congratulations to the runners!

Subway Sign

Okay, enough Maine photos for now! Here is an art deco looking subway sign I saw recently on the east side. I'd never seen one like it before.

Owl's Head

This is a view of the harbor in Owl's Head, Maine, a beautiful spot. It looked like they were fixing up this boat. We got some great lobsters there!

Penobscott Narrows

A view from the Penobscott Narrows Bridge and Observatory in Maine. You go up in part of the bridge and it affords a marvelous view over the water and the mountains. Gorgeous fall views!

Breakfast

Doesn't this look like a delicious breakfast?! It was. This was from Deb's Diner in Waldoboro, Maine. I especially liked the home made bread, baked beans and blueberry pancakes!

Camden

This is a view down to the town of Camden, Maine taken from the top of Mt. Battie in Camden Hills State Park. There were great hiking trails there and a spectacular view over the water.

Belted Galloways

Aren't these cows pretty? They are a breed called Belted Galloways. They have nice fuzzy ears which you can't see in the photo.

Acadia

Back from Maine and have a few photos....this one is from Acadia National Park, one of the most gorgeous places to visit, especially in the fall. New York photos coming soon!

San Remo

This is a photo of the San Remo apartment buildings, a very swanky address on Central Park West in Manhattan. I took this picture from the roof of the Met Museum looking west. Wouldn't it be fun to see inside one of those apartments!

Parasols

Some colorful parasols I saw at a booth at the Medieval Festival in Fort Tryon Park. Not much more to say about them!!

Hot Chocolate

This is some delicious hot chocolate I had recently at Cafe Sabarsky at the Neue Gallerie on 86th Street and Fifth Avenue. They have absolutely delicious pastries there too. Yum!!

Film Festival

Some electronic posters for the New York Film Festival, which just ended yesterday at Lincoln Center. I've always wanted to go! Oh well, maybe next year.

Falcon

This was the falconer at the annual medieval festival that takes place each year in Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan. Wish I knew more about the bird he is holding. Have a good weekend.

Statue

This is a statue I came upon recently in the courtyard of Jim Kempner Fine Art, a gallery on West 23rd Street. I think it's quite beautiful. Unfortunately I don't know the name of the artist. You can read more about the gallery here.

Manhattan Bridge

Sorry for the absence! I ran out of photos but took a few this weekend. These are some sun worshipers relaxing near the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn. Hopefully I have enough photos to last for a few days!
