These are some fire escapes seen in an alley in Chinatown. In person they seemed to make an interesting pattern.

You caught a very interesting capture. Wonder how often they are used, other than fires.
Intriguing photo....to me it reflects what NYC looked like at the turn of the last century....even though, obviously, it still looks like this.
