Olsen house

This is a shot of the Olsen house in Cushing, Maine. It's part of the Farnsworth Art Museum now. The painter Andrew Wyeth spent a lot of time here and the house and the people who lived here were the inspiration for many of his works. The painting "Christina's World," now at MOMA in New York, was painted here.

Oysters

Aren't these beautiful! This is a platter of oysters from the Pemaquid Oyster Festival in Damariscotta, Maine. They take their seafood seriously in Maine! Here is a description excerpted from http://www.oysterguide.com/: "Another brilliant oyster from the deepest holes of the Damariscotta River. Pemaquids are even brinier than Glidden Points, very firm, deliciously lemony and light, with a rock-hard brown-and-white shell. It’s hard to believe an oyster that substantial could taste so clean." I agree!

This is a shot of the Marshall's Point Lighthouse near Port Clyde, Maine. There are over 60 lighthouses in the "down east" past of Maine. Here is a description from http://www.lighthousegetaway.com/: "Port Clyde has a long tradition as an artist’s retreat. Andrew Wyeth had a studio here, and his son Jaime is not far away. The picturesque harbor and the light at Marshall Point still serve as a classroom for art workshops. The 31 foot tower of bricks with a granite base was built in 1823 and refurbished in 1857. "

Maine

I'm back from traveling. Sorry I've been away for a while. I was hoping to catch up on some New York photos, but I just haven't had the time. So, for a few days I'm going to show a few shots from Maine. What a beautiful place, I didn't want to leave! This is the coast near Rockland, Maine.

Dawn

The colors in this sunrise inspired me to pull out my camera! I liked the silhouette of the water tower on the right against the sky. I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend! I'll be traveling next week, so I won't be able to post, but I'll be back!

Christopher Street Statues

Going back into my older photos I found this one of a group of statues from a park near Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. They almost seem frozen in time, or are about to come to life. Hopefully I'll be able to find the time to take some new photos one of these days!

Looking Up 2

While I'm on the subject of looking up, this is another shot from a while back (hopefully I didn't post this before!) of part of the Richard Meier Towers in Greenwich Village. Here is a bit of info from the website canso.harmonylogic.com: "The two Perry Street residential condominiums located in Greenwich Village mark Pritzker Prize architect Richard Meier's first Manhattan project since Westbeth in the late 1960's. The 16 story towers stand at the north and south corners of Perry and West Street in the West Village overlooking the Hudson River. Their transparent minimal form will make a striking addition to a section of the New York City skyline otherwise known for its low rise, turn of the (19th) century red brick structures.

Looking Up

New York has so many interesting and beautiful buildings, both old (or relatively old) and new. I don't know what building this is as I took this photo last year sometime, but I like the details and the perspective. I don't even know if it is a residence or an office building. It looks pretty nice though.

Strange gloves

I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as pictures go again. I just haven't had time to take any! I did snap a photo of this corner fruit and vegetable store and wasn't quite sure what was going on with the rubber gloves hanging there filled with water. Any ideas? I wish you a good week ahead.

Hudson

Here's another watery shot to end the week. This is a view of the Hudson river looking north towards the George Washington Bridge. You can also see Riverbank State Park and the Harlem Piers in the photo. Enjoy the weekend and see you Monday!
