Event Horizon

There's a new art installation in Madison Square Park and the works can also be found on the tops of buildings around the perimeter of the park. It's very surprising if you aren't expecting to look up and see a statue on top of a building! Called "Event Horizon" the exhibit is by the British artist Antony Gormley. You can read more about the exhibit at the website here.

I really like this idea. I find it hard not to like any outdoor art installations in general.
& this is a great photo of it too.

Looks like he's ready to jump...
Yikes if you look up and say DON'T JUMP!!!

Art in every form is marvelous.

Interesting, but approaching the limits of effect and cause. The police were cautioning people about it, telling of the weekend installation, but what if there were a potential jumper in the city and a witness hesitated thinking it is art. There are limits. Think of the old saw about yelling fire in a theater, but the director gets on stage before the first act and says, folks, someoen will be yelling "Fire" from the wings, but don't be alarmed, it is part of the play. And then there is a real fire, the alarm sounds and no one moves. Events like this have happened, so am thinking this installation is on the edge. Literally! Now if it were Lichenstein-like cartoon characters perched on the ledges...LOL
