Pier D

The photo for today is something that I pass quite often in Riverside Park. It is the remains of the former “Pier D,” which at one time was used to offload cargo onto railroad cars from the New York Central Railroad. It was destroyed by a fire in 1971, but as a reminder of the rail yard’s history, a portion of the structure has been kept here. (I think the twisted steel looks almost artistic.) It’s amazing to think how recently this park was a working rail yard. How quickly things change!

My judgment on the art stops him a years '50 '60. I believe instead that she am the fascinating photo of a suggestive (over that a good shelter for the animals of the place) place.

Yes, if you had not explained what it was, I would have taken it for some modern abstract art!!

I cannot help but stop and look at things like this, but at the same time, I get a weird feeling too. You know it was a hive of activity and is now is crumbling. I like the photo though.

Yes, things can change in an instant. This makes a good photo though.

It does look like a contemporary sculpture. And I always wondered what it used to be. So thanks for the info! :)
