Decorated Brownstone

I took a photo of the stoop of this brownstone that I passed over the weekend. It looks like they are getting into the Halloween spirit. I enjoy seeing the festive fall decorations. I don't have a stoop to decorate but maybe I will carve a pumpkin this year!

I live in the UK and have no idea what a stoop is. Is it steps or a front porch?! Am I any where near with my guess? Lori get carving that pumpkin out and post a photo!

Hi Marley, yes you are right! A stoop is the front steps and the little porch in front of the brownstone. I guess maybe it's a New York word!

At least the decorations are not ghoulish! Autumn theme decorations are a good thing.

Lori, I too hadn't heard of stoop used in this context. So I found this.
A stoop can be a small porch, platform, or staircase leading from the sidewalk to the entrance of a building. The word stoop is derived from the Dutch, stoep, which is quite fitting: the architectural concept was imported to New York from the Netherlands by Dutch colonists.

I'm surprised if those pumpkins are left oput overnight. Around here they would be gone by the morning.

This recurrence has also become an amusing appointment from us (what then we use to privately remember our dead persons on November 2).
