The Danes and tourists alike were enjoying being outside on this beautiful day, stolling along the water and spending time in the cafes. I loved the colorful buildings. With that perspective it looks as if you were on a boat taking this picture.
Maybe they have colourful houses so that they contrast with the long hours of darkness in the winter. It cheers everyone up.

It would seem that this is a preserved area, a historic district. Yet with all the TV antennas (no cable) people live and work there, keeping it alive. Agree, you must have been on the water to take this bright and cheery photo!

Ny Havn, it just came to me, that is likely where the New Haven, CT name originated. Don't know if the New Haven, CT waterfront is as colorful, though, but think probably not, based on my last visit there.
