Belnord

This is a photo of the Belnord a full-block apartment building on the upper west side. It has a garden on the inner courtyard side that was originally designed for carriages to pull up inside. The smaller building at right is a Presbyterian church, now a landmarked historic building.

Wow! A block-wide apartment building?!? Compared to the church, the building is huge!

grizinalNY Times article,(in 1908) "The 175-unit Belnord was promoted as the largest multiple dwelling in the world. Apartments ranged from 8 to 14 rooms, with rents of $175 to $500 a month, high for the period." That courtyard was one of the largest in the city, too!
