Red tailed hawk

Continuing on the animal theme of yesterday, here is a red-tailed hawk that I saw recently in Riverside Park. I wouldn't even have noticed her, except for the big crowd of people below the tree taking pictures and looking through their binoculars. I guess the hawks are getting more common in New York these days. This one had a nest with babies inside and the father was there too, though he was camera shy. Enjoy your weekend!

Beautiful birds to watch, we had a pair that nested in a nearby cemetary, occasionally perched on our yard shed's roof to watch for slow chipmunks. Good to see them return to the city, as that is a natural way to reduce "undesireable vectors" as the health department would say. Have a great weekend, too. Jay

Cool shot!

I heard there are actually a large number of birds of prey in NYC, and some nest in buildings(!).

These hawks are so majestic. We seem to be getting more in our area too.

Amazing what you can see in New York! They must have been fearless to nest there and have so many people around them.
