Chelsea building

I thought this was an interesting building I saw in Chelsea recently. The windows look right out on the High Line. It's a beautiful spot but maybe not the most private space, with High Line visitors right outside. I thought those were cool terraces on the building next door.

Squirrel

This is the curious squirrel who sometimes follows me when I walk in Ft. Tryon Park. At least it always looks like the same squirrel. I'm always amazed at how many creatures I've seen in the park, groundhogs, racoons, hawks, etc. It's nice to have some wildlife here.

After Irene

We were so lucky in my neighborhood that the only affect from the big storm was some branches and leaves on the ground. I know that some areas had a lot of flooding, so we were very fortunate.

Clouds

These were some passing clouds during a recent sunset. Let's hope the storm clouds pass us by this weekend and the hurricaine heads back out to the ocean!

Spires

The different types of spires in this shot caught my eye. That's the Empire State Building, of course, on the right and Marble Collegiate Church on the left. One of these days I have to visit the top of the Empire State Building.

Ship

I saw this ship early one morning recently on the Hudson. I couldn't get too close of a view, so I don't know its story. I thought it had a mysterious look. I can almost imagine it floating out of the past.

Mets Fan

This was one of the fans at the Mets game last weekend. Hopefully they didn't let him smoke his pipe inside the stadium!

Mets!

This was the giant screen at the new Citi Field in Queens, home of the New York Mets. As you can see someone had just hit a home run. The apple at the bottom pops up whenever there is a home run. It was a good game, even though the Mets lost (again.)

Alhambra

There is from the exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden celebrating the gardens of the Alhambra in Spain. It is filled with mediterranean plants and fountains and was very beautiful. You can read more about the exhibit here. It really made me want to visit the real thing.

Dendur

This is a statue inside the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum. I've never seen it so quiet in the Egyptian wing of the museum as it was that day. Everyone else was seeing the McQueen exhibit during its final weekend. It was a real treat to have the place practically to myself.

Face

Some artistic graffiti in Chelsea. I wonder if it was sanctioned by the building? It seems to fit there.

Water Lillies

I didn't realize that summer is the peak blooming time for water lillies. They have some gorgeous ones now at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. The blossoms apparently open in the morning and close in the afternoon and I think some of them even have a scent. They are such interesting plants.

Beer Garden

They have a beer garden now under the northern section of the High Line, the elevated park in Manhattan. There seem to be an assortment of food trucks selling all kinds of good things. You can see them in the back. Have a good weekend.

Cupcakes

Cupcake shops seem to be very popular now. This is one from the Upper East Side. I'm afraid I didn't sample the goods, maybe next time. They looked delicious though.

Houses

I'm always surprised to come across houses like these on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. They looked like they were being squeezed out by the large buildings on either side. I wish I knew something about their history and I'd love to get a glimpse inside!

Rest Stop

The Church of the Heavenly Rest, an Episcopal church on Fifth Avenue at 90th Street has a cafe called the Heavenly Rest Stop. I love the name! It looked like a nice place to take a break and enjoy the view.

Lines

The lines were insane during the last weekend of the Alexander McQueen show at the Metropolitan Museum. The retrospective of his fashion was one of the biggest blockbuster shows they've ever had there. I'm sure for everyone the wait was definitely worth it!
