Cobblestones

I always like to find streets with the old cobblestones. This one was near New York University. Have a nice week!

Washington Square Arch

Today I’m showing a picture of the arch in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. I was just reading online that the original arch was constructed to celebrate the centennial of George Washington’s inauguration as president. That first temporary arch was so popular that a permanent one was commissioned and was modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Washington Square Park is always a good people-watching spot.

I’m afraid I won’t be near my computer on Friday, so I can’t look at all of your beautiful photos. So I’ll wish everyone a happy weekend now and see you Monday!

Waterfall

This is a picture of one of the waterfalls in the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. In addition to having beautiful gardens, there is a very large woodland there, which you can hike through. The Bronx River runs through it as well. I love the sound of a waterfall!

Vesuvio

I love the independent bakeries like this one in Soho. Unfortunately as New York seems to be taken over by the chain stores, they are disappearing. Vesuvio Bakery is one of my favorites, with delicious bread! They didn't have much in the window when I passed by on this day, but what was inside looked wonderful.

Cotton Ball Clouds

I know the photo doesn't do it justice, but the clouds were so unusual this day that I couldn't resist taking a photo. I've always found cloud formations interesting and I wish I knew more about the different types. These clouds looked like hundreds of little cotton balls. I don't know what the scientific term for that is!

Sign from the Past

I always like seeing these advertisements from the past, especially the ones with the old phone numbers. For some reason it feels a little bit like going back in time. When they are covered over by new buildings or new signs, it seems like we lose a link with the old New York. I'm sure you must have signs like this in your cities too.

Union Square

Today I'm showing a view of Union Square in Manhattan. There is a wonderful greenmarket there several times a week and that's where I took the photos of the tomatoes and corn that I showed last week. Union Square is also a place where lots of meetings and demonstrations take place, and there is a Christmas market there in December. It's quite a center of activity. I wish you all a good weekend!

Rainy Day

I don't have an exciting shot for today, just a window I saw at New York University. I'm not sure why the umbrellas were there but I thought they were colorful. I hope it's not a rainy day today wherever you are!

Greenhouse

I was in Greenwich Village a few weeks ago and passed by the Jefferson Market Garden so I went in and took a stroll. It is a lovely little garden and it makes you almost forget you are in the midst of Manhattan. The Jefferson Market building used to be a courthouse and is now a public library. I thought this greenhouse was pretty. I'd love to have a garden with a greenhouse some day!

Flatiron Building

Here's another typical New York photo, that many visitors like to photograph too. I've tried to take pictures of the Flatiron Building (at 23rd and Fifth) before, but haven't been too pleased with the results. I'd love the see the inside of this building someday!
